Robert Foertsch grew up in Wyndmere, ND. After graduation, he went to North Dakota State University and pursued a bachelor's of science in computer science. After graduation he began to work as a systems administrator for the university, and also was an adjunct lecturer for the mathematics department. While working, the call to the priesthood began to emerge, and he attended some of the various discernment events hosted by the diocese, specifically the Vianney Discernment Retreat and Operation Andrew Dinners. After talking to his local pastor and the vocation director, he applied to and was accepted as a seminarian. He began his Pre-Theology studies at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, and is now currently a theology student at the Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity in St. Paul, Minnesota.
